HISTORY

The Wynyard Estate began life as the family seat of the Marquesses of Londonderry, an aristocratic dynasty. Before Sir John Hall purchased it in 1987, Wynyard was a working estate for hundreds of years. Through its 6000 acres of productive farmland, dairy farm, and living quarters, it supported the surrounding communities and the Londonderry family.

Death duties introduced in the 1980s meant that the house and Estate could no longer be sustained. They were sold from the Londonderry family to North East entrepreneur Sir John Hall, who set upon his vision to create a master plan that would provide a mix of business, leisure, and residential uses in a development of quality and excellence which would compete with any other location in a national and international context.

Based on the gated communities of America, Sir John Hall brought this unique concept to the North East for the first time.

This vision included a 400 acre international business park, golf course, hotel, a classically styled English village with 120 homes, a traditional pub, duck pond, country park, and nature trails.

Now, the Wynyard Estate continues to grow with further developments to the Estate include a primary school and developments by Robertson homes, Dere Street and Bellway. We currently have over 1000 homes built.
